Cross-Border Emergencies Continue

Chatham-Kent and surrounding counties will continue to provide ambulatory services for each other going forward.

The municipality has formalized an agreement with both Essex and Elgin, so that cross-border ambulance calls will result in proper payment for operational costs.

Chatham-Kent Assistant Fire and Emergency Chief Alan Devillaer says some communities in different counties are often closely linked.

"The closest ambulance to Wheatley would actually be Leamington, where the closest ambulance for Lighthouse Cove in Essex is actually Tilbury," says Devillaer. "So we do have that reciprocal agreement to ensure residents get the best care possible."
