Dog Control Bylaw Changing

Chatham-Kent is looking at introducing a responsible animal ownership bylaw.

It would replace the current Dog Control bylaw, which just covers dogs.

"We're going from a bylaw that we used to have strictly on dogs, and trying to cover all animals in the municipality," says Municipal Clerk Judy Smith. "The new bylaw also has an appeal process, and it has a section on prohibited animals also."

A public consultation will be held in February before the completed draft bylaw is presented to Chatham-Kent Council in March or April.

The draft report is currently available to the public online.
