High-Speed Chase

A 25-year-old Windsor man is in custody after Chatham-Kent police tried to stop a car on Longwoods Rd. that police say accelerated onto Grand Ave. hitting speeds of 140 km/h in a 50 km/h zone.

Police say the incident happened at about 2am. The fleeing vehicle turned onto St. Clair St. and continued at 90 km/hr while police tried to stop it because of safety concerns.

The vehicle struck a cruiser causing minor damage and when police surrounded it in a parking lot, the driver locked the doors and refused to come out.

Officers broke a window to get the man out. He's been charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, failure to stop for police and resisting arrest.
