Care Centre Employees Ratify New Contract

Employees at Residence on the Thames in Chatham have a new collective agreement.

Around 30 elderly care centre workers voted 96% in favour of a new three-year contract, which includes increases to wages and a significant boost to a pension plan.

Brian VanDooren, a union representative with Christian Labour Association of Canada, says the negotiations were very productive.

"It wasn't really combative in particular, so we managed to get a lot of issues resolved," he says. "We managed to come to terms on financial details as well, without the need to go to costly and unnecessary arbitration."

The employees at Residence on the Thames provide care and a safe, comfortable environment for elderly residents in Chatham-Kent.
