Boil Water Advisory In Ridgetown

A broken water main has prompted a boil water advisory in Ridgetown.

General Manager Health and Family Services April Rietdyk says the advisory affects everyone in Ridgetown who gets water from the Chatham-Kent system. "Public Works and PUC (officials) have been out overnight hand delivering notices and connecting with residents throughout the Ridgetown area to let them know that water has to be boiled for one-minute," says Rietdyk.

She says municipal officials are busy refilling the water tower and once that's complete the water must pass two water sample tests over the next 24-hours before it can be declared drinkable. Pre-recorded updates can be obtained by calling the municipal Boil Water Advisory Update Line 519-352-5540.

Rietdyk could not explain why it took the Chatham-Kent Public Health Unit over nine hours to post the alert on their website, through social media, and inform local media outlets.
