Ministry Issues Orders In Lakeshore Death

Following the death of a man in Tecumseh who was pinned between a rail car and a tractor, the Ministry of Labour has issued a stop work order against a local company.

The OPP says 39-year-old Shane Knapp died while trying to move a rail car on the spur line in the 400-block of Elmstead Rd. on February 27.

Ministry inspectors visited Canadian Mineral Technologies Inc. on Wednesday.

The company has been ordered to develop safe workplace procedures related to the movement of rail cars. They've also been instructed to train employees on safe work procedures.

The stop work order will remain in place until the company is in compliance with ministry orders. A ministry spokesperson couldn't say if any further action would be taken because the investigation is still ongoing.
