Chatham's Melvin Honoured By Council

Long-time Major League Baseball General Manager Doug Melvin is honoured that he's being recognized by his hometown.

The Chatham native will soon have his name displayed alongside Fergie Jenkins on several Chatham-Kent Chamber of Commerce gateway signs across the city.

"I always wanted to be like Fergie and I told him when I got inducted into the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame that it was one way to be like Fergie and I guess this is another way," says Melvin. "Being recognized by your hometown is quite an honour and I want to thank all those involved who were a part of this and allowed me this opportunity."

Melvin, who is currently the GM for the Milwaukee Brewers, says he's planning to stop by Chatham sometime in April for a few days and hopes to see the sign in person.
