Social Assistance System Glitches

A Chatham-Kent councillor wants to see issues with Ontario's social assistance software fixed sooner rather than later.

Since switching to the Social Assistance Management System (SAMS), user data entry is taking longer, and money is even being sent to the wrong bank accounts.

Councillor Derek Robertson says these mistakes are unacceptable. "The cheques are supposed to match up with the stubs, that's kind of the way the world works. To not have effective financial accountability and reconciliation is a cause for concern."

The Ministry of Community and Social Services says of the 20,879 software complaints placed, only 10,699 have been resolved. Council has ordered senior administration directly correspond with the Ministry about the glitches.
