Commission Rules Against Highbury Canco

Leamington's Highbury Canco has lost its bid to pay less for tomatoes used in exported tomato paste.

The Farm Products Marketing Commission ruled in favour of the processing vegetable growers. The growers argued their contract already covers paste tomatoes.

OPVG officials declined to comment on the ruling.

The decision means contracts are now in place with all Ontario tomato processors. Preliminary pricing ranges from $117 to $127 per ton of tomatoes.
