Attempted Theft Foiled

An observant citizen gets the credit for stopping a theft in Chatham.

Police say the citizen saw a man ride a bicycle past a residence on Oxley Dr. several times yesterday morning.

The man then entered the garage and attempted to steal a Trek bicycle, but the citizen confronted him and alerted the homeowner, who called police.

A 19-year-old man from Chatham has been charged with break and enter and is awaiting a bail hearing.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
