Fire Destroys River Line House

A stubborn fire that kept crews busy for most of the morning caused $100,000 damage to a house on River Line, east of Scane Rd.

Thamesville Fire Chief Paul Dawdy says neighbours saw smoke coming from the building and it was fully engaged when crews arrived.

"We had some problems with live hydro wires; we couldn't get at it until the hydro (crews) got here and shut it down," says Dawdy. "It was called in with heavy smoke; that's what they noticed first and that's what we had, then we had flames and now we are trying to get the fire out so we can go in and determine what the cause is."

No one was in the building at the time. The former resident, an elderly lady, had passed away a few weeks ago.
