Hockey Finals Creates Mayoral Challenge

With the GOJHL Western Conference Finals set to kick off tonight between LaSalle and Leamington, the mayors are getting involved.

LaSalle Mayor Ken Antaya is issuing a challenge to Leamington Mayor John Paterson, that the loser has to wear the winning town's jersey to an Essex County Council meeting.

"You know, I wanted a little bit more than that. But Mayor Paterson sort of chickened out, so that's the way it is," explains Antaya. "I've had experience winning a bet against another mayor in the county, and him welching on it, so I didn't want to get into that."

Antaya suggested that perhaps the losing mayor would get pelted with strawberries or tomatoes in front of county council after the championship, but that idea didn't fly.
