Teens Arrested Following Crime Spree

Three teenagers are facing a laundry list of charges following a crime spree in Chatham.

It all started shortly after midnight when the teens allegedly forced their way into a home on Sandys St. and stole a set of car keys and took off in a mini-van.

Police say the trio drove to a complex on Wedgewood Ave. and started checking for unlocked doors, but one resident heard them and called police. As they stole a wallet from another residence they woke up the homeowner, and fled on foot.

Officers arrived and apprehended two of the three teens within minutes. Police say both had knives and their breath smelled of alcohol. The third suspect was located about a hour later.

A 16 and 18-year-old from Morpeth and a 17-year-old from Chatham have all been charged with two counts of break and enter, theft, possession of stolen property, and trespassing.

The 16-year-old and 18-year-old were also charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, while the 18-year-old was additionally charged with three counts of failing to comply.
