Regional OPP A Possibility

While some municipalities explore a regional municipal police force, Leamington Mayor John Paterson believes amalgamating OPP detachments could be the answer.

Paterson feels there may be some savings if the towns currently policed by the OPP switched to a regional model. "Does Leamington really need to provide jail cells? Kingsville is just building brand new jail cells and if none of us needs them, that would be a big savings."

Paterson says Leamington was one of the towns that wasn't in favour of the idea a few years ago, but that may have changed.

A joint police services board meeting is planned for April 24, where it will likely be a topic of discussion.
