CKCHC Defends Doctor's Wages

The Chatham-Kent Community Health Centre is explaining how one of its doctors made over $372,000.

Dr. Vishal Chawla is a full-time employee and brought in that amount in 2014, but Shirley Davies, president of the board of directors, says they don't set the wages.

"The other physicians on the list, they may not work completely full-time hours, but they get an hourly rate that is set by the Ontario Medical Association and the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care," says Davies. "So depending upon the number of hours that they work, they get paid the hourly rate."

Davies adds they can't cut back on hours without impacting the level of care to their clients.
