Local Girls Advance To National Pageant

Five Miss Universe Western Ontario contestants are now moving on to the national finals, including three from Windsor-Essex.

Joana Szeen and Willma Gendb of Windsor, along with Leamington native Catherine Valle, were selected out of 17 other contestants at the 2015 Miss Universe Canada Western Ontario Pageant held at Windsor's Capitol Theatre on Saturday.

Western Ontario Regional Director Sonny Borrelli says the judges were looking for specific qualities when choosing the finalists.

"They were looking for poise, elegance, intelligence, and of course, physical beauty," he says. "But (ultimately) a well rounded, all Canadian girl that is well spoken and can represent our country to the world."

Saturday night’s five pageant finalists will now face off against 62 other contestents at the national pageant being held on May 23 in Toronto. The winner will become Miss Universe Canada 2015.
