Police say they were called to a residence in Chatham to respond to a physical altercation between a man and a woman.
The woman was taken to the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance for medical attention.
The man, who police charged in connection with their investigation, was taken into custody pending a bail hearing.
SPS Board Chair Kelly Ash said the decision followed discussions with Acting Chief Mike Federico and aligns with practices at other police services.
