Local MPs React To Budget

The 2015/2016 federal budget sports a $1.4-billion surplus.

Among new initiatives includes dropping the the small business tax rate from 11% to 9% by 2019. The Conservatives have also increased the annual contribution limit on tax-free savings accounts to $10,000 from $5,500.

Chatham-Kent-Essex MP Dave Van Kesteren says it's no secret the Conservatives are gearing up for this year's election. "We are the best fiscal managers. We've been able to steer through this course. It's important to prove to Canadians the best choice they have is a Conservative government."

Meanwhile, Lambton-Kent-Middlesex MP Bev Shipley says these types of changes help multiple demographics in CK. "Seniors and families, that's the basis of our country. Certainly the seniors are growing, and the families we have right now."

Security spending will also be beefed up, with $11.8-billion going to the Canadian military over ten years.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
