Crash Downs Power Line

Park Ave. W in Chatham has reopened after a crash that left a live hydro wire strung across the road for about half an hour this morning.

At about 10:30am, a car jumped the curb and struck a hydro pole with enough force to snap it off, leaving the wire still connected to the downed pole on one side of the street and the power lines on the other.

The driver of the car, a lone male, was taken to hospital as a precaution but his injuries were not thought to be serious.

Police blocked traffic while Entegrus crews removed the line, and traffic returned to normal shortly after 11am.
