National Day Of Mourning

Communities across the country are remembering those who have died on the job as part of the National Day of Mourning.

The day also serves as a reminder of establishing and maintaining safe workplace conditions and procedures.

Chatham-Kent Occupational Safety Manager Denise Lidster says workplace fatalities have a phenomenol effect on the families of workers. "This is a day we can honour their memory. I think it's very important that they haven't fallen in vain, and we can continue to look at prevention."

Chatham-Kent officials took part in a flag raising ceremony Tuesday morning at the Chatham Civic Centre. The City of Windsor is holding a similar ceremony at 5pm, followed by a march to Coventry Gardens later at 6pm.
