LHIN Backing New OB Model

An expert panel's plans for Leamington OB service is getting the backing of the Erie-St. Clair LHIN.

The board wants administration to come up with a costed and fleshed out plan based on the newly proposed model for birthing services in the town. The board's chair, Martin Girash, says final approval could come at the June 23 board meeting.

"On [June] 24 the plan will start to be implemented. It doesn't mean on the 24th there will be a new model in place, but we'll start with the discussions with the agencies, with the negotiations of the operational aspects of it," says Girash.

The new model calls for a patient-focus system that would see the unit opened only when a patient needs to access it.

The public has 30 days to give their written submissions regarding the new model either through the Erie-St. Clair LHIN website, by mail or by dropping the letter off at the office.
