Searching River In Kaake Case

OPP divers combed over a section of the Detroit River Thursday afternoon in search of evidence in the murder investigation of Cassandra Kaake.

Windsor police won't say what they were looking for, if the evidence was recovered or how the search came to be. "We need to protect the integrity of the case," says Windsor police Constable Andrew Drouillard.

Kaake, who was seven months pregnant, died in December inside a home on Benjamin Ave. Firefighters discovered Kaake's body after putting out a fire inside the home. Police said she didn't die from the fire, but rather severe trauma to her body.

Even though police have arrested and charged 26-year-old Matthew Brush with first-degree murder, the investigation is still ongoing as police try to make a "solid case."

Last month, Brush's lawyer told BlackburnNews.com his client was being held in a mental health unit. Brush will appear in court on June 9.
