Neonic Comment Deadline Today

Farm organizations are urging members to take time to comment on proposed neonic pesticide restrictions before the comment period closes at midnight.

Large farm organizations like the Grain Farmers of Ontario are angry that a request to extend the deadline until planting is over was ignored. Provincial Director Mark Huston says the comment period is a lot shorter than usual.

"We are disappointed in that, it seems they are really trying to push this through instead of getting legislation that works," he says. "The way the regulations have made the actual seed that we are applying, it's now the pesticide as opposed to the chemical that's being applied to it."

If the proposal goes ahead, farm organizations say meeting the requirements for getting the products approved will be very difficult.
