Choking Game Prompts Letter

The Lambton Kent District School Board is urging parents to talk with their children, after several choking game incidents.

Superintendent of Education Dave Doey says the board is aware of a number of incidents at various schools of students choking themselves or others to the point of unconsciousness.

"There was information that our parents and our students needed to be aware of so we could be proactive in responding to the concerns that come with this kind of behaviour," he says. "There are real concerns about the harm that can come to individuals who participate in these kinds of things and we felt that parents would appreciate having the information."

The board consulted with a psychologist, a mental health professional and medical officers of health in both Chatham-Kent and Lambton County before sending the letter to parents.
