According to Chatham-Kent police, the boy was attempting to cross Canal St. around 3:30pm yesterday afternoon when he was hit.
The child suffered a minor head injury and was taken to hospital in Chatham before being transferred to Windsor.
Police say the boy was conscious and alert. Any witnesses are asked to contact Chatham-Kent police.
SPS Board Chair Kelly Ash said the decision followed discussions with Acting Chief Mike Federico and aligns with practices at other police services.
