Scott Quick already appeared in Superior Court in Windsor over three days this week for the hearing.
The 48-year-old was arrested on March 11, in the Belleville area, and has been in local police custody since.
SPS Board Chair Kelly Ash said the decision followed discussions with Acting Chief Mike Federico and aligns with practices at other police services.
