Green Parking Lot Coming

A brownfield space in Chatham will soon become a green parking lot, thanks in part to RBC Bank.

The lot next to the Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority (LTVCA) on Thames St. used to be home to a gas station.

Dillon Consulting has been retained to convert the space and Partner Scott Praill says they'll look at ways to retain water on the lot. "So that it doesn't simply run off and cause storm surges in the sewers, those types of concepts," says Praill. "They've (LTVCA) also asked us to look at greening the lot and using that water for things like rain gardens, bioswales, so that they're treated more naturally."

RBC is contributing $75,000 to the project, which will cover the majority of the rehabilitation. Praill says they hope to complete the project by the end of the year, with planting set for next spring.
