Showing Strength At Relay For Life

Close to 400 people have taken part in this year's Relay for Life in Chatham, including around 45 cancer survivors.

The 12-hour relay kicked off at Chatham-Kent Secondary School at noon on Saturday, and ran until midnight.

Karrie Roy, who has been diagnosed with cancer, says she took part in the relay to honour her caregivers.

"I want to give back. I want to show everyone that I'm still strong, even though I still have cancer and I'm heading for surgery this month," she says. "I'm okay -- I just want them to know I'm okay."

The goal for the relay was to raise $260,000, however the final total amount for this year has yet to be determined. All money raised is donated to the Canadian Cancer Society to be used towards cancer research and support of Canadians living with cancer.
