Staff To Recommend 3% Average Tax Increase

Municipal staff is already assembling numbers and figures ahead of next year's budget process.

Chatham-Kent Council is being asked to consider a 2% tax increase and 1% capital levy on average over the next three years.

Chief Financial Officer Mike Turner says planning out the budget several years in advance is a growing trend. "In Calgary, they've gone to multi-year budgeting. In London, 2016 is the first year they're taking a look at multi-year budgeting. This is kind of a first step for us to try and get some longer term targets in place."

Council will vote on the recommendations this week. The report is just for consideration; council will not make a concrete decision until budget time.
