Mitchell's Bay Hosts Kids Fishing Derby

Kids are getting the chance to learn more about fishing with the annual Kids Fishing Derby at Mitchell's Bay Marine Park.

The derby is part of National Fishing Week wrapping July 12 and is a Kids, Cops and Canadian Tire event which is sponsored by the not-for-profit Fishing Forever group and supported by the Police Association of Ontario and the Chatham-Kent Police Service.

Chair of Fishing Forever Bob Izumi says nothing puts a smile on a kid's face faster than catching a fish.

"That's why I love to create opportunities for children and families to go fishing," says Izumi. "Fishing is one of the very best ways for parents and other adults to establish productive and healthy relationships with children."

The event goes from 7am to 2pm today and is open to those 16 years old and younger.
