UPDATE: Pig Barn Fire Near Auburn

Damage is estimated at over $100,000 after a fire at a barn north of Auburn.

The 19,000 sq ft barn contained 4,500 pigs and is located on Hawkins Rd. between Prosperity Line and St. Agustine Line. Over 100 pigs died as a result of the fire.

Fire stations from North Huron, Lucknow and Goderich were called about the fire just after 8am and had it under control around 11am. The fire was contained to one room and in an under floor manure pit.

The cause of the fire is under investigation but is not considered suspicious.

Hawkins Rd. was closed for a time, but has re-opened.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
