UPDATE: Suspicious Package Not A Threat

A package at a government building in downtown Chatham has been deemed not suspicious.

An employee at the Judy LaMarsh Building opened the envelope shortly before 3pm yesterday. Inside was an unknown white powder and the area of the building was subsequently evacuated.

The OPP's Urban Chemical Response Team was called in and the all clear was given around 2am.

Chatham-Kent Police are still investigating the origin of the package. Police say the building has reopened and it will be business as usual for staff today.
