Horwath Hydro Campaign Comes to Town

Ontario's NDP leader believes the Wynne government can be pressured to reverse its plans for the partial sale of Hydro One.

Andrea Horwath visited Sarnia Wednesday as part of her hydro campaign.

At Little Caesars Pizza on Lambton Mall Rd., franchise owner Kathleen Mundy explained to Horwath the impacts high hydro rates have on her businesses.

Mundy has seen a 16 per cent increase for electricity which amounts to two per cent of the operating costs.

Horwath says she's hearing the same concerns from residents across the province.

She adds government's own polling shows that 73 per cent of Ontarians are not in favour of the sell-off of Hydro One.

Mundy says she would like to think business hasn't suffered, but she knows that it has.

Horwath says while legislation has been passed for the sale of 60 per cent of Hydro One, the initial public offering may not be ready until early next year.

Also during her visit to Sarnia, the provincial NDP leader met with Sarnia Mayor Mike Bradley, hosted a roundtable discussion with the Sarnia Lambton Chamber of Commerce, and held a community town hall meeting regarding the government's proposed sell-off of Hydro One.
