Brown Water Problem Solved

It will still be a few more weeks before the second phase of a water treatment system is installed.

The equipment will help prevent brown water caused by inversion in Lake Erie every fall.

General Manager Tom Kissner says the first phase of treatment has been installed.

"Sodium permanganate that we're using to precipitate magnesium, or manganese out of the water, and that's what can happen during a lake inversion," say Kissner. "The second phase of that project is powder activated carbon system, and that will help with taste and order as well as some of the other issues that come with algae."

The equipment for the second phase should be installed and ready to go by the end of August.
