Minimizing Impact Of Interchange Construction

Prolonged closures are still the main concern for Chatham-Kent Council ahead of more 401 construction in the coming years.

Councillors heard from the Ministry of Transportation on the continued plans to revamp a stretch of the highway, as well as redo the Hwy 40/401 interchange.

MTO Engineer Christine Costa says they've also heard from members of the public about the much needed construction. "They like the idea that we're improving the sight distance, enhancing safety, making it a higher capacity interchange. They understand the project itself, it's the actual closures and impact itself they have an issue with."

Construction is set to run from 2016 to 2018, and includes closing the interchange for eight months. Mayor Randy Hope voiced his concerns about closures interfering with the Internatinal Plowing Match set for 2018.
