Alleged Drunk Assaults Officers

A Walpole Island man is facing charges after police were called to Steinhoff Park in Wallaceburg for a disturbance.

Officers arrested the man for being intoxicated in a public place after citizens complained he was causing a disturbance while they were trying to watch a soccer game around 10:20pm yesterday. While being escorted to the cruiser police say the man allegedly resisted arrested, tried to head butt the officers, and started kicking and flailing his legs, striking both officers.

The 45-year-old was eventually pepper sprayed and held in custody until sober and released with conditions and a future court date. He was charged with assault with intent to resist arrest.

Neither officer required medical attention.
