Dog Dies In Wheatley Fire

Chatham-Kent fire officials are calling in the Ontario Fire Marshal as their investigation continues into a costly fire in Wheatley.

Assistant Fire Chief Ric Scharf says the blaze started in two separate locations on the same property on Erie St. S on Wednesday afternoon, with one fire in a residential home and one in a garage.

There was someone home at the time, and a dog perished in the fire, but no other injuries were reported.

Officials say they're still trying to determine what started the fires, which ended up causing an estimated $250,000 in damage.
