Five Arrested In St. Thomas Drug Bust

A total of five people are facing drug charges after police busted a group selling pills at a tourist attraction in St. Thomas.

Investigators say around 1am on August 11 officers spotted a drug deal taking place near the Jumbo the Elephant statue.

The five were arrested a short time later and 52 hydromorphone pills were seized. Police estimate the value of the pills at over $1,000.

William Renaud, 46, from Chatham faces one count of trafficking and is being held in custody. Candice Ashburn, 36, from St. Thomas is facing two counts of trafficking and one count of breach of probation.

Three others, a 20-year-old man, a 26-year-old man and a 19-year-old girl from Port Stanley face possession charges and have been released with a future court date.

Anyone who spots suspicious activity in their neighbourhood is being asked to contact police.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
