Police say while the pair were struggling over the woman's phone, the man pushed her up against a door and grabbed her by the throat.
Officers say her son fled the residence and called 911 from a neighbour's phone.
The woman did not require medical attention.
People in southern Huron and Lambton counties are being told to limit their time outside.
