Mock Attack On Freep Marathon

A table-top security exercise involving agencies from both sides of the border is being held today in Detroit.

The exercise scenario focuses on the prevention, response, and recovery of simulated attacks on the annual Detroit Free Press Talmer Bank Marathon, which involves runners on both sides of the border. The purpose is to test plans and policies of federal, provincial, state, and local area agencies in response to a transportation security incident.

More than 150 participants from 50 agencies are expected to take part in the exercise. The RCMP, Canada Border Services Agency, Canadian Coast Guard. Essex County OPP, Windsor Port Authority, Transport Canada, Windsor Fire and Rescue, and the Salvation Army Canada are all included.

The exercise is being held at the Detroit Fire Department Regional Training Centre.

The actual marathon, which involves runners crossing both the Ambassador Bridge and Windsor-Detroit Tunnel, takes place October 17-18 this year.
