Cross-Border Teamwork A Challenge

In the case of a cross-border emergency, it's all about getting on the same page.

That's the message from Lt. Ben Chamberlain with the U.S. Coast Guard Sector Detroit, following yesterday's mock emergency exercise involving agencies on both sides of the border.

"You know what the Coast Guard might do in the event of an emergency, or for our portion of an emergency, the Border Patrol might do entirely differently," says Chamberlain. "Or the Emergency Management Agency might have a completely different set of rules that they go by."

The exercise scenario involved a simulated attack on the annual Detroit Free Press Talmer Bank Marathon, which involves runners in Windsor and Detroit. More than 150 participants from 50 agencies took part in the table top exercise at the Detroit Fire Department Regional Training Centre.
