MPP Expecting An Earful From Landlords

A slew of calls from landlords complaining about their lack of rights has prompted a local MPP to call a meeting.

Chatham-Kent-Essex representative Rick Nicholls will hold a town hall style meeting this evening in Chatham. He calls it a fact finding mission.

"We get complaints whereby landlords rent out and then all of a sudden they find that their places have been trashed, there's back rent owing, and of course it costs them a lot of money to go back in and repair," says Nicholls. "And the other issue is sometimes it's very difficult if you have a bad tenant, to actually move that bad tenant out of there."

Nicholls is asking that only landlords attend so that a back-and-forth between landlords and tenants doesn't occur. Based on the number of phone calls he's received, Nicholls is expecting between 30-50 people to attend.

The meeting is being held at the Active Lifestyle Centre on Merritt Avenue and runs from 7pm-9pm.
