Seed Corn Growers See Positives

The chair of the Ontario Seed Corn Growers is delighted Blenheim based C&L Seeds has built a handling and drying facility.

Jeff Wilson says there has been room in the business for expansion for some time but it couldn't take place without the infrastructure.

"People needed corn grown but they didn't want to put bricks and mortar down so there was always that place for someone like C&L to come in an do custom production," he says. "With their know-how and our great growing area conditions from the Great Lakes I see nothing but success for them."

Wilson says the local area is very good for production of seed corn because the lake effect gives it a very long frost free season and he is expecting the seed corn crop this year to be about average.
