Tourism Plan Starts With Basics

Tourist officials and those involved in the tourism industry are inviting comment on the draft Tourism Destination Management Plan and will hold a public meeting to discuss it Monday evening at the Retro Suites.

The Vice Chair of the Tourism Stakeholders Advisory Council Susanne Spence-Wilkins says it takes a broad approach.

"We always sort of go to the marketing portion of tourism where this is looking at how can we develop our tourism industry," she says. "We really need some basics here. We need to start with employee and business development, so we are sort of calling it Tourism 101."

You can check out the plan on line now, and make comments either at the public meeting on Monday at the Retro Suites at 6:30pm or submit them until September 8. The comments will be considered before the draft plan goes to council later in September.
