CP Switch Damaged

A Chatham man is facing numerous charges after allegedly stealing copper wire from a CP Rail switch.

Around 2:45am this morning, a CP Rail employee called police after discovering $300 worth of wire missing and a damaged switch, which could of caused trains to stop abruptly.

Officers followed a path through a neighbouring wheat field and discovered the suspect lying on his stomach trying to hide.

A search of the 23-year-old found he was allegedly in possession of bolt cutters, three knives, and methamphetamine. He was also bound by a curfew and under conditions to not possess drugs or weapons.

He's been charged with mischief endangering life, theft, possession of break-in instruments, drug possession and three counts of failing to comply.
