Mary Webb Centre Upgrades Planned

The board of the Mary Webb Centre in Highgate is hoping to build an addition to bring washroom and elevator capacity up to the needs of a music venue and has launched a public fund raising campaign.

Chair Marg Eberle believe most of the $712,800 needed will be covered by heritage and other grants.

"We need to raise $125,000 and then grants and other income from corporations and such will make us up to the amount that we need," she says . "We've been here five years, we've done a tremendous number of things, we've spent a lot of money, which we raised, we are not in debt and we hope not to ever go in debt."

The structure also needs a fire alarm and sprinkler system and some other accessibility improvements to meet building codes.

Some work will be completed this year with the addition planned for completion by next fall.
