Walking To Fight Kidney Disease

The fourth annual Chatham-Kent Kidney Walk gets underway this morning at the Kingston Park Pavilion in Chatham.

Event coordinator Erika Muscat says kidney disease is on the rise in the area with the renal dialysis program at Windsor Regional Hospital expanding 45% in the last five years.

"That's just outstanding to increase that much in such a short amount of time. They're just having a really difficult time keeping up. The program is bursting at the seams," says Muscat.

Registration begins at 9:45am with the 5K walk set to start at 10am.

Last year the event raised $3,000 for kidney disease research.

The annual kidney walk in Leamington is set for September 27, 2015.
