Accused In Historical Murder Awaits Bail Hearing

A Chatham-Kent man accused of murdering his wife nearly three decades ago hopes to have a bail hearing date set next week.

George Jarvis is charged with first degree murder in the shooting death of his wife Donna on November 12, 1987 on Indian Creek Rd. in Harwich Township. The cold case was reopened in conjunction with the OPP in 2013, and Jarvis was arrested just over three-weeks ago.

Jarvis made a brief court appearance this morning, via video from the Southwest Detention Centre in Windsor, at which time his lawyer Ken Marley said he had not received a copy of the evidence from the Crown's office except for a brief three-page synopsis.

Marley hopes to have a confirmed bail hearing date in Superior Court by next Friday, when Jarvis is scheduled to re-appear via video.
