Sock Stealer Pulls A Knife

A 47-year-old Windsor man is charged with robbery and breach of probation after a shoplifting incident at the Sears store in the Downtown Chatham Centre.

Police say a man who was at the store placed some socks in a grocery bag Sunday afternoon and left without making any attempt to pay for them.

Officers say he then threw the socks to the ground and walked away when he was confronted by a loss prevention officer. He's also accused of brandishing a knife when the officer confronted him a second time.

Police found the man in Chatham a few hours later and learned that he was bound by a probation order not to possess any weapons.

He has been taken into custody pending a bail hearing.
