Family Expresses Gratitude Amid Need

A weekend fund-raising event to help a Chatham family battling cancer deal with the expenses of getting the nine-year-old boy to treatments has left them overwhelmed.

Donovan Smith begins a round of 65 chemotherapy sessions today and his aunt, Tammy Greenwood says his cousins set up a lemonade stand as part of the effort.

"The children made $160 on the lemonade stand due to the kindness of everybody," she says noting one person paid $50 for a half-glass.

The fund-raiser, which also included a yard sale, netted a total of $600 and Greenwood says it is needed because Donovan's mother took a leave from her job to help care for him.

"For transportation, for food, bills, if Donovan needs something while he is in London," she says.

Greenwood says she hadn't witnessed that level of generosity in the past.
